Justin T. Rush, JD, is an experienced policy, government affairs and health equity professional currently serving as the Director of Public Policy for the True Colors Fund. Mr. Rush leads the organization’s work to enact administrative and legislative policy changes at all levels of government in order to prevent and end LGBT youth homelessness. Previously, Mr. Rush served as a Manager of Policy & Legislative Affairs at NASTAD (National Alliance of State & Territorial AIDS Directors). While in this role, he provided technical assistance to ensure internal health department policy compliance with federal guidance. At the same time he pushed the organization’s policy positions through state agencies and legislatures, built and nurtured strategic partnerships, and supported HIV and hepatitis advocacy efforts within states and in Congress.
Mr. Rush received his Juris Doctor degree from the University of Mississippi School of Law, leading to clerkships at the Cook County (Chicago) State’s Attorney’s Office, Juvenile Justice Bureau and the Mississippi Secretary of State’s Office, Policy & Research Division. Additionally, Mr. Rush brings nearly a decade of public affairs and communications experience after serving as Press Secretary and Community Liaison for the New York State Senate. While in this position, he implemented the East Harlem LGBT Task Force and worked to reduce stigma in local communities, supported access to treatment and care in East Harlem and the South Bronx, and advocated for equitable policies for New York City’s LGBT community.
